Amanda is a freelance photographer currently living in San Francisco. A new mom, long time wife and sister - she grew up in many places as the daughter of a Marine and a Midwife. She calls home anywhere she finds herself among family and friends.
Like many, she wanted to be a National Geographic photographer and travel the world taking photos, however, having no idea how to chase photography as a career, she settled on her second interest - becoming an Astronaut (which really became working in the aerospace engineering field as a propulsion engineer). She studied Aerospace Engineering at Virginia Tech, graduating and having a 6 year career as an engineer in the Washington DC area. Traveling from French Guiana to Kazakstan for work, she enjoyed taking photos everywhere she went.
Eventually it was obvious that photography was where her real passion lied, and she started pursuing her photography career with the support of her best friend and husband after moving to San Francisco. Her interest in space and exploration still exists, but now it takes the form of sci-fi fandom and looking at the stars. The engineer is ever present and she believes photography is problem solving with light and creativity, instead of numbers and math. If she was to do it all over again, perhaps she would study film or architecture, marrying her interest of visually interesting and design.
